10 Things You Can Try For the Lenten Season
Pray for others as you take your daily walk, or as you walk to/from classes, or as you drive to/from work.
Volunteer one hour or more each week with a local shelter, tutoring program, nursing home or Goodwill Center.
Scroll through the photos in your smart phone and pray daily for a different person.
Show your attitude of gratitude and handwrite a thank you note each week to someone who has made a difference in your life.
Create daily quiet time and spend 10 minutes each day in silence and prayer.
Give up soft drinks, or fast food, tea or coffee. Remind yourself of how Christ gave his life for you and stand firm that you can give up this temptation for 40 days.
Forgive someone who doesn’t deserve it; perhaps forgive yourself of a past sin; pray for your enemies.
Dig into the Bible; read one of the Gospels from beginning to end.
Start a prayer journal; journal daily of who/what you are praying for and then at the end of each week, review your requests and see how God has revealed Himself to you.
Try an electronic fast; give up TV, Facebook, texting, tweeting, or email – choose any one of these items or some combination. Remind yourself that Christ shed his blood for you and that you can give up this luxury for 40 days.
